FINAL GIRL explores the slasher flicks of the '70s and '80s...and all the other horror movies I feel like talking about, too. This is life on the EDGE, so beware yon spoilers!

easy like Friday mornin'

Last night (or this morning, if you want to get all semantical about it), I went to see Underworld: Rise of the Lycans so I could review it for AMC. I can't say I was overly enthused; beyond the catch a 12:10am show, then immediately write a review aspect of it, I knew next to nothing about the franchise and I didn't think it would be my cup of tea at all. How did I fare? How did the movie fare? Did I enjoy it, or did I want to kill myself? Read and find out, lest Rhona Mitra stab you with that pointy thing!

There's some new art posted over at my website- namely, a commission I recently completed: Miike's Audition.

No, I still haven't seen it. Yes, I'm a wicked big lame. I'd say I'd watch it tonight, but tonight Battlestar Galactica holds my heart and my mind captive.

Yes, I'm also a nerd...oh, come on. Like you didn't know that already.

Don't feel bad, Stacie. I'd rather know what happened to Earth too.

Ah, frak! I'm a Cylon. That's a bummer...

I liked Rhona Mitra as Snakette Plissken in DOOMSDAY and am looking forward to some mindless werewolf fun in LYCANS.

woo hoo! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I feel I have to go see it because I have this dumb lifelong love for Rhona Mitra, the fact that it might not be utterly awful pleases me greatly (cas even if you'd written Worst. Movie. EVER. I'd still be in like Flynn to see it this weekend!)
Also, nerds are frakkin awesome, everyone knows this now, so basically, writing stuff like "i am a big lame" is backdoor bragging Jenna Mulrony style!!! :)

I think "nerd cool" is a total media fabrication, the basis of which lies largely in the charms of Tina Fey and Michael Cera. I think in real-life, "cool kids" still rule the school and a nerd is a nerd. I mentioned my trip to San Diego Comic-Con once to a group of...cool kids, I guess, though "serious folk" seems more appropriate...and the first (and only) question they asked was "Did you dress up?" It was very much a reminder that nerds are still nerds. There's still a stigma attached to liking sci fi, comics, even horror movies. I still like these things, and most of my life, both personal and professional revolves around them. I just like to acknowledge my uncoolness, which is large and in charge.

One thing I WILL brag about, however, is...well, actually, I got nothing. Wait, I have a good memory, I'll say that much.

Jenna Mulroney rules, by the way.

Well Michael Cera is heading fast for utter douchebag status ("I'm too great for an Arrested Development movie, I'm like, way too busy being George Michael in other stuff"),but Seth Cohen most definitely deserves a mention for the whole media-nerd-love fest.(plus he had pretty good taste in horror movies! :))
Everyone is different, people who try to conform will end up sad, but at the end of the day its their own fault because those are the people who propagate the stereotype.
You are funny ("Voting is SO FUCKING COOL it's not even funny. Just ask Obama, or whoever won American Idol last year.") You LOVE horror movies and you write awesome reviews of them. You take intriguing photos. You bother your ass to update your site. In general (excluding that last self-deprecating joke) you seem happy and comfortable with yourself. Therefore, it is my opinion that you are cool, and good luck trying to change this because I am a stuborn bitch who is stuck in her ways! Word.

"AUDITION" is decent, and has a couple of grabber moments, but don't ever try it unless you're fully awake, because aside from those aforementioned moments, it's sort-of the cinematic equivalent of a sleeping pill.

Do you have a gallery of your paintings? Do your commissions choose their image or just the subject and you do the rest?

Don't worry, hepalien, I don't have a problem being a nerd...I just call it like it is. But thanks- I won't argue with anything you said! :D

J Astro, I find that's the way it is with most Asian horror. I always set out to do a marathon (or at least a double feature) and if I lean over to the side even a little bit, I'm passed out 20 minutes in.

Mr B, there's a gallery at my website; for commissions, the buyer chooses the subject and the size (if they have any preferences), then I send some designs for approval. If someone has a specific image/moment/whatever he or she wants- as was the case with the buyer of Audition, that's cool too. I still send designs for the okay so the person is getting exactly what they want. Or at least as close as I can get. :)

By the way, I love "Snakette Plissken". Has there ever really BEEN a decent Snakette? She was alright in Doomsday, but she lacked...something. I don't know. Charm, maybe?

There was something about her hair in DOOMSDAY that really worked for me. I happened to catch her on the SciFi channel a week ago in Beowulf with either the guy from "Becker" or Christopher Lambert and she was decent in a leathery bustier window dressing kind of way. I like her bone structure the way I like the same of your buddy Lena Heady.

You should watch "Audition." Like the original "Wicker Man" a little more than an hour goes by before you realize you are watching a horror movie, which sounds like an indictment, but it is good. That is you will have an emotional reaction to it.

Beautiful work, Stacie.

I've just this minute finishd watching that actress star in "Tokyo Gore Police". Oh man.

Please, please, please watch and review TGP for us, Stacie! Please! What a flick - I'm still trying to collect my marbles...

Hey, I've got a stupid idea. Why not sew all your Ghostella flicks together and submit it to Sundance or something, like a Tales From the Crypt kinda deal. You've got the makings of a kickass independent movie there, better than most of the stuff they show at film festivals.

MrB said...

Tokyo Gore Police was a singular experience, to be sure. The type of film you urge others to watch just so you can share all of the OMG DID THEY REALLY JUST DO THAT moments.

Gung Hay Fat Choy!
Xin Nian Kuai Le!
...jus sayin!

If you want to get rid of the "wicked big lame" title, you really should just suck it up and watch Audition. It's worth it, and it will remove that nasty moniker better than Easy-Off.

Have you seen the video clip of the be-wimpled Lucy and Rene on the 'Bitchslap' set? It’s at The Official Xena: Warrior Princess Fan Club (don’t mock!) http://www.creationent.com/outback/fanclubs/index.html Lucy’s on top form and gives some outstanding comedy shtick! Keep going down the page past the merchandise, (NO, don’t stop to look at the t-shirt with the blue Chinese dragon on the back, so reminiscent of a childhood silky pyjama top you once had ... oh, that’s just me! Very fashion forward!!) and just below the New Xena Stamps. However, please, please, please do not go as far as the Michael Hurst picture ... it is just too, too unspeakably upsetting!
