it's awardenin' time!

Yes, it's time to bestow yet another Why Didn't They Use the Original Art Rather Than This Crappy Piece of Crap on a Long-Awaited DVD Release of a Beloved Cult Classic? Award! The prestigious award has been given in the past to films such as The Burning, Scarecrows, and Monster Squad, and now it's time for Night of the Creeps to step up to the podium! Hooray!

Again I say, HOORAY!

Mind you, by "hooray" I mean "are you fucking serious?".

It occurs to me that the original tagline sort of negates its own "good news" -- your date being here isn't in fact such good news at all if he turns out to be a zombie. Unless, you know, you're into that...

It's even worse when you consider that the DVD cover is the result of an Amazon-sponsored "which of these three Photoshop comps sucks least?" contest. (And the selected cover really was the best choice offered.)

You had me at Night of the Creeps on DVD. You can always get a high res jpg of the art you like and make your own box art, but you can't make you're own bad ass DVD. Ok, so you can, but it ain't the same.riv

Same for the new "Return of the Living Dead." Why would anyone in his/her right mind not want punk zombies spray-painting a tombstone on a DVD cover? Do my teen years count for nothing?

Isn't there some website where you can download and print out retro covers for these crapified re-releases? If not, there oughta be!

Hmm...

It's a total travesty the way they ruin the artwork. Kinda funny that the blu-ray version has the little alien guy on it. Also trying to go for the Scream-factor. The whole damn poster is LOL now that I think about it.

My vote for worst horror movie tagline goes to The Incredible Melting Man...

How can anything be the "first new" anything? In order to be the new something there has to be an established something first, which would make it not first. And how is that tagline even scary, or at the best vaguely intriguing?
