My fiancee and my best friend both get scared (my fiancee still hasn't forgiven me for making her watch Misery and my best friend for watching Donnie Darko.)

Mostly I just get disturbed. I almost had a good thing going with Saw in the theatre, but then song girl started laughing half way through and ruined it for me. Sometimes stuff sinks in for weird reasons, like Madman, and other times it's just a well made movie like Session 9, but I'm still searching for that ultimate chill down the spine!

Amanda By NightAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13599870.post-1127536808362858552005-09-24T00:40:00.000-04:002005-09-24T00:40:00.000-04:00Heh... I've been playing catch-up on my horror - parenting put a real crimp in my movie-watching style, and I've been out of the pop culture loop since late 1999...

I know entirely what you mean about Session 9 and The Ring - I'm pretty jaded in a lot of ways when it comes to horror, and they both completely freaked me out.

Scariest movie ever for me? The original cut of Alien - I saw it in the theatre when I was 12, and it scared the snot out of me. It wasn't until I bought the Alien DVD box set w/ Ridley Scott's commentary that I was able to prove to my wife that the scenes that scared me so much actually existed, since they were edited out of the film shortly after the initial release!protected statichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01866630885332901223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13599870.post-1127517381500051962005-09-23T19:16:00.000-04:002005-09-23T19:16:00.000-04:00I was going to write about the nurse scene but I h...I was going to write about the nurse scene but I had to stop myself, or I would've written more and more and more...I love Exorcist 3. A great blend of horror and crime story.

Kids are damn creepy- I mean, I realize he's the Anti-Christ and all, but the final shot of Damian in The Omen, where he turns to look at the camera just gives me the heebie-jeebies. That sinister little smirk...

That's a great list at RetroCrush- though how the "face that gives me nightmares" only comes in at #57, I don't get it! And lots of people cite the Carrie's hand-out-of-the-grave as a big scare, but it's just a shock/jump scare in my book. There's plenty of other haunting scenes from that movie, like the Jesus-with-glowing-eyes in the closet...

I haven't caught High Tension yet. I saw the poster at the local theatre when I was there for...Star Wars? Land of the Dead? Anyway, I was intrigued, but missed it's brief appearance on the big screen. I'll definitely be picking it up on DVD, though!Stacie Ponderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07784074536271206501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13599870.post-1127490581502273972005-09-23T11:49:00.000-04:002005-09-23T11:49:00.000-04:00Kids in horror movies scare me generally - you've ...Kids in horror movies scare me generally - you've mentioned the twins in The Shining, but then there's the dreaming/freddy-possessed kid in Wes Craven's New Nightmare, the vampire kid hovering outside the window in Salem's Lot, the very ending of Hallowe'en 4. I was even a bit creeped out by the zombie baby in Pet Sematary, and that film sucked.

Here's a really good list of 100 scariest movie moments, it's got some you've mentioned here as well as a bunch of others. Nice to see The Shining getting props - that film has so many genuinely disturbing moments in it it's unfair.

You mention not having found any recent horror films that interest you - have you seen Haute Tension? It's a french film from a year or so back (translated as High Tension or, rather more inexplicably, Switchblade Romance). It's a stalk-n-slash which has more in common with the early examples of the genre than with the more recent crop of clever-clever, self-knowing post-Scream slashers...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13599870.post-1127164117017705792005-09-19T17:08:00.000-04:002005-09-19T17:08:00.000-04:00The attack on the nurse in Exorcist 3.
